A Battery of Successes
Battery Resourcers has developed a unique process for recycling lithium-ion batteries. Yan Wang, associate professor of mechanical engineering and director of WPI’s Electrochemical Energy Laboratory, worked closely with Diran Apelian, founder of WPI’s Metal Processing Institute (MPI), and Eric Gratz, a former postdoctoral fellow in MPI’s Center for Resource Recovery and Recycling (CR3).

$1Million from the USABC to develop Battery Resourcers Recycling Technology
The United States Advanced Battery Consortium LLC (USABC), a collaborative organization of FCA US LLC, Ford Motor Company and General Motors, today announced the award of a $1 million contract to Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, Massachusetts, for the scale-up and development of its lithium-ion battery recycling process to produce plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) battery cells made with recovered cathode material.
